A little over a week into our Maine trip.
We leave Saturday.
It’s right around this time that I usually drift back into a little dream…
…of carving out a simple life here.
Simultaneously, I can feel it unraveling before my eyes.
The edges falling...
...disappearing into the sea.

Caught...
Pretending to smoke driftwood cigarettes seemed like a good idea at the time…
…until Sara caught wind of it

Rare one...
The cast of characters along for the ride.
Briefly together.
Before going wherever their heart desires.
Each summer, a little different in some way or another.
Each summer, a reminder to embrace it now...
...unsure of what's to come.
For them.
For us.
We'll always have Maine.

Fishing...
I took the boys fishing yesterday.
I’m not much of a fisherman…but I know enough to get by.
We found a perfect little spot that we’ve been driving by for years.
I was the official bait man, putting the worms on their hooks.
They took care of the rest.
I got to sit back and soak in the scene.
The two of them, excited.
Grinning from ear to ear.
And the fish came.
Little spots.
To see their faces light up the way they did was everything.
We stayed there for hours.
Catch. Release.
Catch. Release.
Who knew that a 30 pack of worms was going to last so long?
We left talking about doing it again later in the week.
My heart.
Happy.
