Sometimes being near each other is enough.
Late Sunday morning...
Late Sunday morning.
Him playing a football game on his iPad.
Me buried in the pantry to get the frame.
Nothing extraordinary.
A quiet, reflective morning.
There’s nothing to see here…
…and yet,
…there’s everything to see here.
I often feel like an outsider...
I often feel like an outsider.
Less than.
Someone that snuck in the back door.
Unworthy to have a seat at the table.
Talked over.
Talked thru.
Dismissed.
Insignificant.
…and then, he reaches for me
And that small gesture
Becomes everything.
Everything you need is close at hand...
When long days pick you up and spit you out…
…spinning you sideways, end over end
…losing your sense of direction
…left wondering when you’ll get any traction
The simplest thing can bring life into focus.
Everything you need is close at hand.
What day is it?
Monday morning.
2:30AM.
Up early after the fella on the left woke me...panting.
Restless.
Which got the littlest one anxious as well.
I dropped my arm alongside the bed....pet his head, hushed him gently.
I could feel him trembling so I got up and headed downstairs.
Him...excited -- I finally got the message to take him outside.
Business taken care of.
Now back in the house, going thru the routine.
The day/week kickstarted a couple of hours ahead of time....
...following a typical whirlwind weekend of kid activities.
Here.
There.
Everywhere.
This photo from Saturday morning.
The days blending together in a soupy mix of life.
What day is it?
The body on autopilot.
Recalibrating.
Falling back into rhythm.
...and now time to sit in a quiet house.
The guy on the left snoring alongside my feet.
The guy on the right sawing logs with the rest of the family upstairs.
It won't be long now.
The floorboards will be springing to life soon enough.
Monday morning.
Now 4:30AM.
Here we go...
...but first, an hour to contemplate a cat nap :)
