A friend died Tuesday.
Cancer.
You probably could have guessed.
Her name was Susan
She was quick-witted.
Fiery.
Wild.
And we shared loves of photography….
…family
…and the small moments.
We commented on each other’s posts regularly.
Our last exchange…
Me: What’s next?
Her: Meeting you, of course!!
Me: Ha! Let’s make that one happen.
Her: For sure.
Sadly that never did.
Flash to this morning.
430AM.
An early walk with the pups.
Rain.
Wind.
Lost in thought.
My eyes sleepy.
Circling back to the house.
The dogs nosing around slowly after one scent or another.
I look up.
And a young fox pup is within 5 feet.
Directly on the sidewalk in front of us.
Sitting.
Waiting.
Somehow the dogs don’t notice her initially.
And then…full force they do.
Pulling me this way and that.
Tangling themselves and me up.
The fox watching.
Then running when they leap toward her.
Me pulling them down the road.
Her following us all along.
We stop.
The dogs go berserk.
She runs.
We turn.
She follows.
All the way home.
That same back and forth.
We get inside.
I can’t shake the image of that young pups face.
The wild seeking us.
You can probably guess what I’m thinking.
It brings a warm smile.
I’m so glad she stopped by.
