He was in the back room, watching something on his iPad. ‘Is it OK if I sit next to you?’ I asked. ‘Sure’ he said. He shifted immediately to make space for me. When I sat down, his foot welcomed me alongside. I smiled to myself and felt like the luckiest man alive. I’d stay there as long as his foot did.
