Last night I trimmed his hair.
When I carried him down the stairs this morning he said his head hurt.
‘Because of the haircut?’
‘Nah’
He smiled.
All better.
We went thru the motions that we take day in and day out.
The drive to school was quiet.
It was cold.
He was tired.
And sometimes less is more.
There's good in this world (part three)...
Friday.
She booked us for a cooking class.
Saturday.
She made dinner for neighbors in need.
Sunday.
She made dinner for another set of neighbors going thru a rough patch.
And me?
Appreciative of her everyday.
[...and I don't say it nearly as much as I should...]
So very luck to be alongside her, riding on her coattails.
There's good in this world...
Together...
I had a feeling.
Saturday.
Me and The Original out taking (senior) photos...
...just because.
No pressure.
You're only a senior ONCE :)
The kid that I used to take photos of every day.
Now, the young woman I rarely capture.
Her, without friends alongside, wondering what to do with her hands.
Me, providing little to no direction -- no help at all.
We took hundreds of photos.
She liked a handful :)
And this one, for whatever reason, spoke the most to me.
More than anything, we got to spend some time together.
Away from the noise and swirl of the everyday.
No interruptions.
No news.
No notifications.
No rush to be anywhere...
...to do anything
...but be there
Together.
There's good in this world (part two)...
I told him I wrote about him.
He said he wanted to see.
I showed him.
I watched him read it.
He smiled.
He looked up.
He said ‘Thank you’
HE thanked ME.
I said ‘Buddy, it was ALL you’.
He smiled again.
We left it there.
There’s good in this world…
There's good in this world...
This morning...
He leaned in as we walked to the car.
Buried his head under my right arm.
'I love you Dad'
‘I love you too’
We drove to school.
My phone scrolling IDLES lyrics.
Us, singing together...
...as we do more days than not.
He touched my arm at one point and smiled.
There's good in this world...
...and a tear in my eye
